Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services

The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) supports programs that assist in educating children with special needs, provides for the rehabilitation of youth and adults with disabilities, and supports research to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities.   • The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) has primary responsibility for administering programs and projects relating to the free appropriate public education of all children, youth and adults with disabilities, from birth through age 21.

  • The Rehabilitation Services Administration

  • The Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) oversees programs that help individuals with physical or mental disabilities to obtain employment through the provision of such supports as counseling, medical and psychological services, job training, and other individualized services.

  • The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), provides leadership and support for a comprehensive program of research related to the rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities.
